  • Many Angénieux lenses feature the so called Universal Mount (screw mount, european version, measuring 58mm in diameter, used by Angénieux, Cooke and others for ages). They were/are traditionally served with a PL or Panavision mount. However, since the EF Cine introduction it's also possible to order most Angénieuxes with a Canon EF mount. The above selection only contains those lenses, that are indeed available with EF mount straight from the factory, although Universal to EF mount adapters are freely available at the moment (which means, you can basically buy any S35+ vintage Angenieux or Cooke, unscrew the mount, throw the EF adapter in and mount it to your APS-C or Cine EOS). Among the exceptions are Optimo Anamorphic Series and the Optimo 17-80, 19.5-94 and 28-340. Also, at least the Canon mount for the 24-290 seems to be different from the others. That's what the catalog sais.
  • The Type EZ Series lenses are the result of a collaboration with Band Pro Film & Digital Inc. and Jebsen Industrial Technology Co. Ltd.. They feature an interchangeable rear optics module to switch between Super 35mm and full frame 35mm/VistaVision image formats. The lenses themself thus are just labeled Type EZ-#, the focal length and aperture are engraved on the exchangeable rear module. The mounts are exchangeable as well (not sure whether it's the traditional system or something new, the options include PL, EF and E mount). The EZ series lenses feature full metal barrels with thermal drift compensation to provide constant focus during temperature changes.
  • All the above lenses come with interchangeable focus scales (switch between feet or meters) and provide breathless or nearly breathless zoom and focus mechanisms.

  • Atlas lenses come with IMS mount, default options include PL, Canon EF and more - all dumb. Gears are standard 0.8 mod. • Bokkeh lenses are color matched and come with consistently positioned gears throughout the series for easy and fast switching between lenses. Markings are engraved, available in metric (#x = M) or imperial scales (#x = F) and - optionally - fluorescent. Mounts are fixed it seems - Canon EF being one of a few options of course. Bokkelux Lens Project was announced dead until end of 2017, some of the lenses where still in circulation at that time though. The remains of the company were at least partly sold to NiSi Filters, which announced their own series of cine lenses based on the Bokkeluxes a year later.

  • Celere HS lenses are "Made in Germany" by Hanse Inno Tech from Hamburg. They are equipped with a swappable Vario Mount System with mounts being available for Canon EF, PL and Sony E*. The lenses also feature an exchangeable front element to switch between Coated and Uncoated looks**. Scales are to read from both sides, are available in metric and imperial and engravings are illuminant. The lenses are colour matched and come in black painted full metal housings. In 2018 they announced a "Stormtrooper" Limited Edition in white with a metallic blue tail ring, at least containing the 25mm T1.5.

    * According to HIT all lenses shipped since 2015 (initial release) were delivered featuring the VMS, although originally the lenses were only intended for PL mount. This was changed at the last second. The EF mounts started to ship during 2016, Sony E mounts will become available until end of the year.
** Same story applies to the front lens element. HIT took 3 different versions of uncoated front lens elements to Cinec 2016 to have visitors evaluate the best choice. The "winner" is reported to go into production right after the show. All lenses deliverered since 2015 are compatible. The so called Net Diffusor is only applicable to the PL mounts. They come with a plastic ring, which can be unscrewed to attach a piece of mesh pantyhose as - depending on applied tightness - adjustable diffusor.

  • Century Precision Optics U.S.A. merged into Schneider Optics in 2000 and is now just called Century Optics U.S.A. (see below). There were no dedicated EF mount mods available, but they use Canon glass, so here we go. All lenses above are modified to Century's Universal Mount, an exchangeable screw-on type mount, that's used since ages. At the time there neither was a Canon EF mounting module available in one piece. Instead you had to get the T-mount module [#TM-OOCT] and a T mount > EF adapter (e.g. Century or any other).
  • These classic CPO lens mods left the lens in its original chassis, only changing the rear section by adding T-stop calibrated manual diaphragms and the Century mount. Further the addition of gears for the control rings and in some cases also support mounts completed the task. Century refered to the above models as Custom Primes series.
  • These are just a selection of commonly available Canon FD lens mods with interchangeable mount. For this mount Century further offered modifications of a number of Nikon lenses including the 2/200, 4/200 Micro, 2.8/300, 2/300, 2.8/400, 4/600 and 5.6/800 Nikkors. A Canon 2.8/14L, 2/200 and an Olympus 2/180 were only available with fixed mounts e.g. including PL, but not Canon EF or T mount (or anything else easily adapted).
  • The 40.5mm rear filters are convenient for Academy Standard (22 x 18.6mm) and will cause vignetting with APS-H, Super 35 and 35mm full frame formats.

  • The Series 2000 Mark I models are basically the same like the old Custom Primes (see Century Precision S2000s above).
  • For the S2000 Mark II models (all based on Canon EF lenses) Century only take the optics and re-house them in a completely new chassis with cine optimized mechanics, which includes a manual aperture ring, an expanded focus throw, precision scales on both sides of the lens, focus and iris gears, support mount for Arri bridgeplate and last but not least they are each packed in a hardcase.
  • All of the current S2000 models can be ordered from stock or as custom modification of your own lens you'd send to them.
  • Again, the selection above only covers Canon EF adaptable lens mods. Further on offer are/were a re-housed Canon 2.8/17-35L, the 3.5/24, 2.8/45 and 2.8/90 T/S lenses, a 2/200 and the Nikon 2.8/8 Fisheye-Nikkor, but those have/had fixed mounts other than T or EF (primarily PL mount).
  • 40.5mm rear filters are convenient for Academy Standard (22 x 18.6mm) and will start to cause vignetting with APS-H or Super 35 format.
  • The current Century Universal T mount piece is #0TM-00CT-00.

  • The Cinematics mods are sold by the chinese company PChood. They do not necessarily alter the original lens. The whole thing basically isn't anything more than a huge focus ring slid on the lens, that looks a bit like a CP.2 series lens housing. At least the 50mm version can be mounted with the original lens hood without extending out of the front of the housing. Stepless aperture or aperture control ring are optionally available, if the full lens mod is ordered from PChood (including the lens). That said, PCHood sells the housings without lens, so you can put it on your lens yourself, as well as completely modded lenses. The housings come with focus gear rims module 0.8. PChood doesn't publish exact specs, but although looking quite massive, the Cinematics mod is pretty lightweight (made from alloy, it adds like 200g to the lens).
  • As of 2014 they offer 2 versions of housings. The first generation incorporates 2 focus gears per housing - one of bigger and one of smaller diameter. The complete housing from the aperture ring at the rear up to the front will rotate during focus. Generation 2 solves the issue of the rotating housing (focus gear no longer fixed to the rest of the housing), but does feature only the bigger diameter focus gear. The videos on Youtube provided by PChood point out, that Version 2 additionally features cutouts for MF/AF and IS switches, but infact none of the gen. 1 Canon housings above hides the switch panels. In some cases it rather looks like the switch panels are harder to access than before.
  • Besides the above listed models there also are some exclusively for Nikon mount lenses, including Cinematics CT.2 45-112mm T2.8 ED (for Nikon 28-70mm), Cinematics CT.2 80-200mm T2.8 (for Nikon 80-200mm) and Cinematics CT.2 128-230mm T2.8 ED (for Nikon 70-200mm).

  • All lenses feature the Cooke Look® and are colour matched with all other Cooke lenses. They further feature 0.8 module gears and opposing focus scales with a choice of metric or imperial.

  • G.L Optics offer complete cine rehousings of several OEM still photography lenses (see comments above for details). The rehousings are made from 6063 aluminum, mounts are stainless steel. PL mount is standard but interchangeable, with Canon EF or Nikon mounts being the options. The website currently - as of 2015.03 - specifies this only for the 18-35, though on request at least EF mount availability was confirmed for all of them. CineGearPro also offers the lenses in both PL and EF mounts - or the EF mount as accessory.
  • The lenses feature 0.8 module gear and dual sided scales in either feet or meters.

  • The PrimeCircle XT mods were based on ZF.2 lenses using the patented X-Circle EF Mount with Cine Lock (dumb mechanical mount). All lenses feature Side View Index (sideways orientation of aperture and focus scales) and a focus gear of 0.8 Mod standard.
  • It was possible just to buy an XT conversion kit for your lens including the 95mm front ring, a focus ring attachment with gear, the mount and lens caps, but the results will look and be different from the factory mods. Optically they put a labeled cladding tube between focus and front ring. Mechanically they add aperture de-clicking and ring dampening, the mount is interchangeable (N/F and C/EF).
  • PrimeCircle's XE series were cine conversions based on Zeiss ZE lenses. Their electronic aperture control was retained during the process. The lenses are equipped with Mod 0.8 standard gears for focus control. Standard finish is black, but there is a special Silver Series available as well.
  • The XM series is a composition of Zeiss ZF/ZE glass in fully custom designed cine housings. The lenses come in either black or silver, with engraved Dual Side View Index scales - either metric or imperial (fluorescent imprints possible on special request). The Series was built as economical alternative to the Zeiss lenses and comes with an interchangeable mount - N/F and C/EF - and so far no word was lost on electronic coupling for EF, so I guess there is none. 0.8 Mod standard gears on focus and aperture control rings.
  • The lenses are sold separately as well as in several different sets packed in one, two or even three hard cases (Prime Circle Flight Cases). Cases are available for single lenses (#PCFC1, 258 x 230 x 170mm), 2 lenses (#PCFC2, 237 x 182 x 155mm), 4 lenses (#PCFC4, 375 x 265 x 152mm), 6 lenses (#PCFC6, 409 x 306 x 175mm) and 8 lenses (#PCFC8, 480 x 360 x 198mm) as well as there is a trolley for 8 lenses (#PCFC8T, 285 x 510 x 199), all using the same dedicated foam lens bases (foam inserts - #LFB15, #LFB18, #LFB21, #LFB25, #LFB28, #LFB35, #LFB50, #LFB50M, #LFB85, #LFB100M and #LFB135).

  • Rokinon's cine lenses are based on the standard lenses for still photography, but optimized for video applications. This includes follow focus gears, aperture declicking and the relocation of scales to the side of the lenses.
  • The Rokinon Cine DS Series was introduced in 2014 as their 2nd generation line of VDSLR lenses. They are color matched and feature unified gear positions among all lenses as well as focusing scales on both sides of the lens (DS = Dual Scale).
  • Refer to Still Lenses C/EF > Samyang for a list of Rokinon photography lenses.

  • Samyang's cine lenses are based on their still photography lenses, but are optimized for video applications. This includes aperture declicking, relocation of scales to the side of the lenses and follow focus gears.
  • Samyang V-DSLR CS II/UMC II Series was introduced in 2014 as 2nd generation line of VDSLR lenses. They are color matched and feature unified gear positions to allow a faster swap of lenses. Although not labeled accordingly, by following the product IDs the T1.5/50, T3.1/100 Macro as well as the T2.2/135 should be manufactured according to the standards of the CS II/UMC II series as well.

  • Cinema AT-X lenses are made for cinematography. They come in typical cine housings, complete with focus and zoom gears.
  • The announcing press release for the 16-28mm T3 confirms, that its lens design is based on the existing 2.8/16-28 photo lens, which covers full frame sensors. In contrary the 2.8/11-16 and 2.8/50-135 stills lenses were built with a DX formula. Thus the 16-28mm T3 might or might not cover full frame, while the other two lenses mentioned most likely won't.

  • The series was shown at NAB 2010 and reported to fit APS-H and FF as given above, although official specs and announcements state APS-H at max. for the whole series ("up to 43mm image circle"). The series was to feature color matched optics, focus and iris gears in uniform diameter, single window scales and industry standard lens form factor. A dedicated "0.6x Wide Angle Adapter" was also planned to become available, turning the 18mm into a 10.8mm lens. The product flyer says 0.7x.
  • Until 2014 the series was never covered in the company's online portfolio, nor is there just a single prove of existence to be found online (by means of reported samples in ownership or having been sold etc.). The series is however mentioned in the price list of 2010 as being available. After all, somewhat looks like at best only prototypes are existing.
  • UniQoptics also offered the Kenji Suematsu Signature Series 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 100mm T1.9 in PL mount (110mm front diameter, PL-EF adapter available, test available by Alfonso Parra).
  • Additional 14mm T1.9 and 16mm T1.9 lenses were announced in 2010 for both series (listed TBA for the Signature series only in the 2010 price list), but neither made it to the markets.
  • UniqOptics ceased from business until 2012, in 2014 Duclos Lenses published a press release about having acquired some of their remains - spare parts for the Signature Series among other stuff. The Razor 7Ds were not amongst.

  • The Zeiss Compact Primes are a series of cine lenses optically based on the ZF lens designs. They don't come with a fixed mount. Exchangeable mount pieces are available for PL mount, Canon EF and Nikon F. Mount piece exchange takes approximately 10-15 mins. Screwdriver, disc shims, screws and a test chart are part of the accessories delivered with the mount pieces. The barrels and mechanics of the lenses are completely different from the ZF models and were optimized for the manual needs of filming (sturdier construction, homogeneous(ly) operating elements, long focus ring rotation etc.). All lenses of the CP.2 series are color-matched and feature module 0.8 gears.
  • CP.3 series lenses are available as basic and XD versions. XD stands for eXtended Data Technology, a proprietary mixture of the open /i-Technology standard and Zeiss specific lens data about lens characteristics. eXtended Data is not strictly limited to PL mount, since it is as well communicated via 4pin Lemo on the lenses.
  • Dedicated cases for the lenses above are available: one for 4 lenses and one for 6 lenses.
  • CP.2 Transport Case #1856-822 (6 lenses): compact hard case made of polycarbonate (Pelican); 560 x 455 x 265mm (discontinued as of 2012, the previously offered CP.2 lens sets (7 lenses) came in two of those cases per set)
  • CP.2 Transport Case #1853-662 (6 lenses): trolley style hard case made of polycarbonate; 560 x 455 x 265mm (2012)

  • Zeiss Supremes come with an interchangeable mount (EF, PL and LPL), each supporting ZEISS eXtended Data. They are color matched, feature a consistent aperture and fixed control ring positions across the series. Scales are individually calibrated and engraved with each lens.

General Notes:
1.) For Canon CN-E lenses refer to Video/Cine Gear > Cine Lenses > Canon CN-E.
2.) There are many more companies offering lens modifications by complete rehousing. Arri in Munich is known to have converted a bunch of Nikons. Another company offering these services is Oppenheimer Camera Products in the US. Some interesting stuff there for PL and BNCR, but not for C/EF yet. OpTex was a company in the UK, offering at least mount conversions, though I can't find evidence for a Canon EF mount among the options (they did convert some Canon FD lenses to their OpTex Universal Mount). They quit business in 2005.
3.) Anamorphic Lenses: Until now I do not know of any anamorphic lenses produced for Canon EF mount. Canon at least filed a patend for a CN-E 37.5-100mm T3.3 Anamorphic lens in 04.2016. However, SLR Magic just released a set of 3 Anamorphot-Cine lenses with PL mount, that are adaptable to Canon EF mount. There are no details on the adapters yet (except for that they are made from Titanium), but the formerly released 50mm T2.1 Apo HyperPrime Cine, also coming with PL mount and an optional EF adapter among others was said to require a factory service for installation of the adapter, which left the question, whether the installation is permanent or reversible. I did not read anything about the Hyperprime's adapter since 2 years now, it's not featured on the homepage. So let's see what happens to the Anamorphot-Cine lenses and their adapters. Specifications are as follows:
  • SLR Magic 35mm T2.4 Anamorphot-Cine 1.33x: covers Super 35 format, delivering ~5.5K
  • SLR Magic 50mm T2.8 Anamorphot-Cine 1.33x: covers full 35mm, delivering ~8K
  • SLR Magic 70mm T4.0 Anamorphot-Cine 1.33x: covers full 35mm, delivering ~8K
  • Common Specs: squeeze factor of 1.33x, multi-coating, close focus down to 3'6, filter thread of Ø82mm, Ø100 x 135mm in size with a weight of 1080g, Titanium PL mount
  • I'd expect the size and weight to be true for only one of them. Not that similar size and weight throughout a series wouldn't be possible (it's actually done by others!), but I wouldn't expect it from SLR Magic.

If all this doesn't help - SLR Magic also offers the Anamorphot 2x 50 adapter, which simply screws onto standard lenses like a close-up lens. It fits lenses with a front lens element diameter of up to 50mm and can be mounted to 62mm threads.
4.) Vaporware/Fun Fact: In 2011 the Italian camera outlet Kelvinkamera+ (some might know them from eBay) announced a series of BabyPrimes being almost ready to ship - modded Zeiss ZF.2s featuring a unified front diameter, focus and iris markings and gear rings (like the Duclos mods above). KelvinKamera+ claimed the BabyPrimes being a result of a cooperation with Zeiss. Zeiss published a counter-statement abnegating any involvement or connection to KK+. The lenses were never produced, sold or reported about again.
