  • The lenses above make up the Zeiss Classic series. The series name was established long after the first models were released. It was introduced in 2015 to categorize this group of lenses against the then introduced Milvus and already existing Otus lens series.

  • Interlock lenses are the next step in Zeiss industrial lens design. They are now also available as ZE and specified to deliver resolutions high enough for line scan sensors up to 43mm (8K) or area scan sensors up to 35mm (>42MP). Like the former ZF-I models their aperature ring and focus ring come with heavy duty fixing screws to prevent accidental readjustments even under harshest conditions, while only the Interlock ZF lenses also feature a declicked aperture.
  • The Interlocks are further available in 2 different M42 mounts. The Interlock Compact Series (2.8/21 Distagon, 2/35 Biogon, 2/50 Planar and 2.4/85 Sonnar) support a flange focal distance of 18mm only, which is not standard M42 camera compatible, while the Interlock Series M42 mount verions of the lenses listed in the table above come with the standard M42 FFD of 45.5mm.

  • The Milvus lenses are optimized to meet the requirements of high resolution sensors (6K+). They are dust and moisture sealed, and the ZF.2 versions feature an aperture de-click function.   • Zeiss offers Lens Gear rings for the Milvus and Otus lens lines to support Mod. 0.8 gear follow focus units. They are made of aluminum and delivered with so-called GumGum rubber bands to protect the lenses' focus rings against scratches. Mounting does without tools. Available is a choice of 4 sizes - Mini with an inner diameter of 62 - 69mm (60 - 67mm with GumGum), Small for a diameter of 71 - 77mm (69 - 75mm with GumGum), Medium for a diameter of 78 - 84mm (76 - 82mm with GumGum) and Large for a diameter of 86 - 93mm (84 - 91mm with GumGum).

General Notes:
1.) Zeiss lenses feature full electronic support: Diaphragms are camera controlled, AF indicators (VFI/AFI) are available, E-TTL II is supported by transmitting distance information.
2.) In 2011 five of those lenses were on offer as set, packed in a black waterproof and fully padded SLR Lens Case exclusively designed for this set. Included are Distagon 2,8/21, 2/28, 2/35, Planar 1,4/50 and Distagon 1,4/85. Each lens has it's individually fitted space in there, and there is room left to place a sixth lens as well.
3.) Many of the Zeiss ZF lenses were tested by SLRgear with Nikons, mainly D200 (crop type) (test results are not 1:1 transferable from camera to camera and even brand to brand, so no listing above).
4.) For Zeiss Cine lenses and other companies' cine mods and lenses based on Zeiss glass be referred to Video/Cine Gear > Cine Lenses > Other Brands.
