  • xThe compatible dedicated Birger EF mount is #RD-EF1-AD1-RS1, most likely a base plate with fixed mount to fit onto the mount plate installation holes of the camera bodies. Thus you'll need to use the TT0 for at least the 12A65 - the holes don't fit, the mount will adapt to the TFL-II. The 25A30 is not offered with the Birger EF mount option, but the holes should fit. Otherwise use the TT0 here as well.

  • Apogee Imaging Systems was acquired by Andor in 2013. While most of the models above already existed, Apogee does not seem to already have offered the Canon EF mount option. In turn now as it is available there is absolutely no information on the way that mount works (dumb, electronic, remote control etc.). After all, the EF mounts are available in different versions:
  • #300570 for Alta F16/F16M, F9000 and F16000 (D07 housing types),
  • #300649 for Alta F6, F42 and F8300 (D02 housing types),
  • #300650 for Alta F D01 types and Aspen G01 housing types (used for very small sensor types only),
  • #300921 for Aspen CG6, CG16M, CG9000 and CG16070 (G07 housing types),
  • #300922 for Aspen CG42 and CG230 (G09 housing types) and
  • #300940 for all Ascent series models.
  • Further the above mounts will not fit with the as well optionally available filter wheels. For the Ascent series and CFW31-8R use EF mount #300893 instead. For all others individual requests are neccessary to get a mount compatible with filter wheels. The story behind the housing types is, that the same housing types are used for different cameras depending on sensor and respective shutter sizes. The numbers are part of the ordering codes.
    Whether or not the original corresponding Apogee models fit the current Andor mounts is not clear. The old datasheets at least make a difference in available housing options (cameras where sometimes available with standard or flat profile housings) as well as older sensor models, i.e. using Kodak instead of ON Semiconductor CCDs.

  • The compatible Birger EF mount for the Basler Beat cameras is #RD-EF1-BB0-RS1, while Birger as well lists #RD-EF1-BL0-RS1 for just "Basler". By 2017 Basler further offers the Ace, Aviator, Dart, Pilot, Pulse and Scout series, all of which feature sensors sized much smaller than APS-C, as well as several line scan cameras. The BL0 could be meant for the latter ones, which partly also come with F mount and sensors as wide as APS-C.

  • Emergent Vision Tec. offers optional Birger mounts to fit Canon EF lenses to their cameras, which are to be ordered directly from Birger:
  • C-Mount for HS-2000/4000: #RD-EF1-CM0-EV1
  • M42 for HS-12000: #RD-EF1-DG2-EV1
  • M52 for HS-20000: #RD-EF1-EV2-EV1
  • The 2016's HR-/HT-Series brochure Speed is everything further clearly states, that Birger mounts are available for all HR/HT models.
  • The above models are only the top models of their series - they also have the HS/HT-2000 and -4000 (2MP and 4MP square 5.5µm type sensors, C-mount) in their portfolio, which don't have huge pixel counts, but deliver a much higher frame speed. All of them are available as -M (onochrome) or -C(olor) versions, some even as -N(ear IR), including the 2k, 4k and 12k models.

  • Integrated Design Tools (IDT) is absolutely unique until now by using both Prolock-i Mark III mounts (for O series) as well as Birger EF mounts (#RD-EF1-RY0-RS1 for Y series). They stay a little unspecific on the Birger mounts though. They are not listed under accessories, neither mentioned as mount options in the datasheets. Only the Y5 datasheet mentions optional Canon SLR lens mount support in the introduction and the IDT Cameras Specification Manual mentions C mount to Canon mount converters being available on demand for all models (thus including IDT's whole range of available cameras - CC, NX, OSA, OS, XS and iN, with the Y6 being discontinued as of 2017 still featuring the smallest crop factor of all models on offer until now).
  • IDT Motion Studio output options include AVI, MOV, MPEG-1, TIFF, BMP, JPG, PNG, TP2, MRF and MCF.
  • IDT uses to advertize an optional WiFi feature for the above camera models. In detail they refer to the YFi box (which already existed in 2010), which is to be wired to the camera's control output and then serves as a remote control via iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Development of the app stopped in 2012.
  • Very early Y series cameras might ship under Redlake brand name. That's because Redlake rebranded to IDT during winter 2008/2009.
  • Old sharpVision 1500-EX's datasheet (2002) presented that camera with a Canon TS-E mounted to it obviously using a 13mm macro extension ring. The last two versions of the camera series' user guide also mention the possibility to order mounting hardware for Canon TS-E lenses. I don't know about just a single active 13mm extension ring to exist - they are all passive/dumb (the active ones are all 12mm). And since the sharpVision's user guides exclusively say TS-E, which only require electronics for iris control to basically work well and still work well enough at iris wide open, I guess all they refered to was some kind of dumb EF-to-C-mount-adapting extension ring or even a combo of EF-C mount adapter and 13mm extension ring (the camera mount was C, Nikon F was available via adapter as well).

  • Illunis cameras are another brand offered with Birger mounts to provide optional Canon EF lens compatibility (in all cases hardware revision E7 or higher is required). The website only mentions the RMV-16050 and RMV-29050 in this matter, while the datasheets (RMV series) or manuals (XMV series) of the other listed models above mention or imply this option for these as well. Of further interest could also be the RMV-4050 and RMV-8050 (5.5µm Series), but about those there are no hints at all about being available/compatible with a Birger.
  • Illunis cameras can be custom ordered in many aspects, including custom sensors never used in Illunis cameras before, custom data interfaces and form factors. They all feature column/pixel defect correction and support horizontal/vertical pixel binning.
  • The RMV series abbreviation stands for Rugged Machine Vision. XMV means eXtreme Machine Vision.

  • Imaging Diagnostics' Camelot series cameras come with either C or CS mount. An electronic adapter is offered to mount Canon EF lenses, and it somewhat sounds like it's an adapter based on their own work. However, for one that company seems inactive since a while and for another these cameras aren't really meant to be used with Canon EF lenses (see crop factor). The sensors used aren't big enough and the rest of their specifications doesn't look too great either.

  • Similar to other manufacturers of scientific/industrial camera heads Imperx offer their cameras in a number of customizable configurations. The options for the Bobcat 2.0 series include sensor types (Monochrome, Color or Truesense ColorFilterArray), I/O connector types (Camera Link, CoaXPress, GigE Vision or PoE) and finally also lens mounts (Canon EF, Nikon F, C mount, M42, Rodenstock and a few more by request). The Canon EF option is available in 2 versions: one passive (ordering code "E") and one active (ordering code is "B"). The active mount is a Birger mount. The GigE Vision connector option does not provide PoE, while PoE features a full GigE Vision port with PoE capability.
  • Cheetah offers almost as many ordering options as the Bobcat 2.0 series: Sensor types include Monochrome, Color and ENIR* (*Python models only), lens mount options include F mount, M42, C mount* (*non-Python models only) and the two Canon EF mount options familar from the Bobcat 2.0 (passive and active).

  • Lumenera video surveillance cameras are available in either -C(olor) or -M(onochrome) versions. The -59 models come with electronic coupled Canon EF mount by default and can be operated either fully automatically or in manual mode (exposure/gain, white balance, focus etc.). DC power supplies are included in the package. For PC remote control Lumenera does not supply a ready to go software package, but instead deliver drivers and a Software Development Kit (SDK) with sample code snippets. Pictures are not saved on a local memory device, but are transferred via ethernet or USB connection to the remote controlling computer.
  • Besides the -C or -M there are even some more minor options available.   • Redlake Megaplus systems consist of a central control unit and a number of connected camera heads (up to 4), enabling to either record wide horizontal resolutions (stitching) or images of the same object from multiple angles.
  • The MotionXtra I can't find a manual for, but it seems, that it has to or can be routed through a hub (Redlake Hub Sync Unit) instead of being connected to a PC directly. The hub provides synchronisation, power and ethernet connectivity. The datasheet further mentions cable legths: "Camera to Hub: up to 328 ft (100m); Hub to Hub/ControlPC: up to 328 ft (100m); longer distances can be achieved with Fiber Media Converters".

  • The Kodak KAI-11002 CCD itself is available in either color or monochrome versions, so it's basically possible, that there were plans for a color and a b/w version of the Currera XL. However, according to the support staff the Currera XL never went into production (though samples seem to have been presented at Vision Trade Fair 2009) due to missing customer response and concerns about high sensor data rates mismatching the Atom's processing power. In 2010 Softhard as a company somewhat transformed into what is Ximea today (see below).

  • SVS-Vistek cameras are shipped with M58 mount by default (the HR4050 and 8050 came with M42, but both mounts are fixed to a base plate) and with a Birger mount for Canon EF mount lenses (Birger #RD-EF1-SV1-RS1).
  • A quick look at ordering codes unveils a huge range of possible preset configurations:
  • Ordering Codes follow the pattern of [series][sensor][chroma][tap][clock speed][interface][bit depth][options], e.g. HR29050CFLGEA.
  • Series is HR, sensor in the above example would be a KAI-29050.
  • Chroma choices are M = monochrome and C = color.
  • Tap choices are O = one, T = two or F = four.
  • Clock Speed options depend on the interface:
    Camera Link leaves you with a choice of L = 20, 32, 40 and 48 MHz (adjustable), H = same as L plus 64 MHz and R = 80 MHz (fixed).
    GigE Vision lets you chose between L = 50 MHz and H = 64 MHz (both fixed).
  • Interface would be CP = Camera Link or GE = GigE.
  • Bitrate offers a choice of A = 8 bit, B = 10 bit, C = 12 bit and D = 14 bit (while none of the datasheets mentions 10 or 14 bit as possible feature). Bitrates have direct impact on max. frame rates - lower bitrate results in higher frame rate. This also is a fixed, non-user-adjustable value.
  • Options include 67 = IP67 protection and 4IO = 4 channels.
  • In 2014 three CMOS cameras where preliminarily introduced - an HR6040, HR12040 and the HR25000. Of these only the latter seems to have made it.

  • The Ximea xiB, xiT and xiX series are advertized to feature an integrated active Canon EF lens mount allowing to control aperture and focus through the camera. IS is supported as well. True EF so to say? Nope. The EF mount is modulary and optional (although seems to be the only mount option available) and as usual comes mounted to a base plate. It still does not rely on the usual external wiring for power supply and control via RS232, that goes the internal way.
  • An additional model xiB-64 CB013 equipped with a 4/3" 13.7µ Luxima LUX13HS (1280 × 864px) global shutter CMOS is in the works/exists. It supports about 3500fps at full resolution.

General Notes:
1. If you do by no means need an electronic EF mount on your industrial/scientific camera head: This might be the case when using manual lenses like the Samyangs (remember that Zeiss lenses still have electronic aperture), or when you simply use a stellar lens like the EF 400mm F2.8L exclusively with iris open (e.g. for astro photography).
