Avigilon High Definition Video Recorders for IP surveillance camera systems - Canon EOS Technoclopedia

Avigilon HD Video Network Recorders are available in a number of different sizes:
  • workstation models with capacities between 500GB and 3TB as well as either 4, 8 or 16 simultaneously encoding video channels; they all feature a 2GHz Quad Core Xeon, 4GB Ram, 2 SATA HDDs, gigabit ethernet connectivity and dual monitor output - all build into a standard midi tower (17.5kg total weight); they all run 64bit WinXP Pro and eat 825W

  • server models with capacities between 2.5TB and 15TB as well as 8, 16 or 24 simultaneously encoding video channels; they all feature a 2GHz Quad Core Xeon, 4GB Ram, 6 SATA HDDs (hot swappable and Raid 5 capable) and 4x gigabit connections - all packed into a 2U rack mount chassis (26kg total weight); they also run on 64bit WinXP Pro and eat 750W (no graphical output)

  • hardware expansion options available for server models: secondary redundant PSU (hot swappable), 7.5TB and 15TB Raid 5, 10TB, 20TB and 30TB Raid 6 (includes a 3U rack mount)
  • software/license expansion options available for workstation models

General Notes:
1.) Avigilon xMP-HD-PRO video surveillance cameras are available in either -C(olor) or (near IR) -M(onochrome) versions. They can be operated fully automatically or in manual mode (shutter speed, iris settings, focus etc.). They are remote controlled with the included Control Center Software. Pictures are not saved on a local memory device, but are transferred via RJ45 ethernet connection to a central memory storage device (see HD NVRs).
2.) The Avigilon H4 series models require a 3V MN-Li RTC backup battery. They use the same physical port for audio input and output. The manual describes a 4 line phone jack to serve mono audio to and from the camera. Stereo is not supported. Some EF mount lenses seemingly will only work with AUX power. These include the Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8L (II ?) USM, EF 35mm F2.0 IS USM, EF 50mm F1.8 (STM?) and EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS (II ?) USM, as well as the Sigma AF 30mm F1.4 DC HSM | Art [301]. There might be more lenses, these are only those listed as available accessories in the Avigilon datasheet. To this point it's not stated, how the AUX power is to be delivered. Avigilon further offers several types of enclosures for the H4 Series:
  • Outdoor HD Small Enclosure with Heater [ES-HD-HWS-SM]
  • Outdoor HD Enclosure with Heater [ES-HD-HWS]
  • Outdoor HD Enclosure with Cooling Fan [ES-HD-CWS]
  • Outdoor HD Large Enclosure with Heater [ES-HD-HWS-LG]
  • Outdoor HD Large Enclosure with Cooling Fan [ES-HD-CWS-LG]
  • Outdoor HD X-Large Enclosure [ES-HD-HS-XL]
  • Outdoor HD Enclosure PoE Module [ES-HD-IPM]
3.) Avigilon Control Center v4.8 (recent in 2011) supports the following operating systems:
  • ACC Clients: Windows XP SP2, Vista and 7
  • ACC Workstations, Servers and Gateways run on Windows XP SP2 (x86 + x64), Vista (x86 + x64), Server 2003 SP2, Server 2008 and 7

The Server needs a licence key to be operated. Another licence is required to connect the Server to a Gateway. The Client software, Gateway itself, (file) Player and Camera Installation Tool can be installed and used without licenses. As far as I understand it, the Camera Installation Tool is basically enough to communicate with different cameras, which are auto detected, you can control focus and get live footage.
