The lens shows an extreme sensitivity for applied pressure (e.g. from applying a lens cap or carrying the lens mounted to a camera in a camera bag etc.) and might stop working until it's either remounted or the camera restarted. Although is looks like a problem of physical construction Canon is going to release a firmware update to address this issue. They did not state to change physical specifications for future production models.
